It is important every once in a while to dry your diapers in the sun. It both disinfects and is the best natural way to bleach your stains out. It is important that your diapers are wet when you hang them out so that it bleaches the stains out.
I bought myself an umbrella clothesline that I can easily take down and store over the winter time. I also use it for my other clothes on nice days so this was a good choice for me. For those of you that just need to use it every once in a while and don’t need a long line there are clothes lines out there that you pull from one end of your porch to the other where you hook it on to a hook and then when you are done using it you unhook it and the line is gone until you need it again. Anyway the UV rays that are so bad for us are good for your diapers and anything else you need to disinfect.

This is my stash on the line.

I am finally back from Iceland and my store is up and running.

To those of you that won the last give away I am so sorry! I left the prizes with my husband to mail them when I left but he totally forgot about them. But they are going out tomorrow with 15% discount off of of your next order. I hope you can forgive me.

Sad news from the home front is that my oldest is starting to potty train so he will be out of cloth soon. I think I will be making him his last pair of shorties this summer. Good thing I have another baby now to cloth.

Before this baby was born at 9,5lbs I took both preemie and newborn prefolds with me and he ended up fitting in the newborns for a few weeks but then they have been great for breastfeeding. Since my son is still getting use to my strong let downs he will let go for a while so before I start a feeding I tuck a newborn or a preemie prefold in my nursing bra like a bib and the other end goes under the babies head so when he lets go the breast milk sprays into the prefold instead of on my clothes. Last time with my first son I was using these larger prefolds that just ended up being bulky and weird but these are just the right size. So for you ladies that are breastfeeding or are just about to I would invest in these they are perfect.

My recommendations on starting your stash.

I started with it in mind that I wanted to save money by cloth diapering my child. So I started with ordering 12 bumGeniuse Diapers. They are one size that work from birth till potty training and are still the workhorse of my stash. One size like the BG’s or Happy Heinys are the way to go or the Duo Thirsties pocket to start out if you are wanting something easy breezy. The reason I like the pocket one size is because they dry faster than the all in ones and you can add hemp to the stuffing so that you have complete control over how absorbent your diaper is.

I also recommend having 12 prefolds and 2-3 covers. These will save you when you have diaper rash issues or run out of your pockets. I fell in love with these while O was still not mobile and I had fun making them fit just right with using a snappy (another must in the first stash). Child can also go cover less during the summer and looks super cute just wearing a cloth diaper. This is good for baby’s skin to be able to breath well. When I started using prefolds I got started making my own wool covers and longies. This ended up becoming an addiction and will post better about that later. You can now get nice one size covers as well so you only need 2-3 for the whole diapering experience.

I started just using a plastic bag in my diaper bin and then got a nice PUL liner later when we had the extra money.

A travel sized PUL wet bag for your diaper bag is a must if you plan on leaving the house ever and your child is in cloth. These are not expensive and are well worth it because they are not only good for wet diapers and so forth but also for those times where a child gets sick all over him or herself and you have to change their clothes and don’t want to just put the clothes in the diaperbag to make it smell horrible.

I hope that is of some help to you newbies out there. This is the most cost effective and easiest cloth diapering route.

We are starting this blog off with a bang by doing a give away.

We are happy to have been in business for a little over a year now. We started in August of 2008 and have been going strong since then. There have been some changes in the site and since I’ve been in Grad school I have not been adding much to the site the last few months. We are now expecting an addition to the family and he is due at the end of Jan. 2010. After that I will be working full time only on the site and nothing else so we will update our products. Looking forward to cloth diaper this child from the very beginning. My oldest son didn’t start in cloth. We started with disposables and then went to cloth at 2 months and just fell in love with it. I knew that I had to start my own business and used my maternity pay to start out. It was a great decision and I have never regretted it.

We are doing this pre holiday giveaway to show my customers and newcomers how thankful we are for them and their interest.

First prize will be 2 Happy Heiny Print diapers (I will let the person pick from what I have in stock since these are sized)

Second prize will be 1 happy hempy insert in the size of choice

Third prize will be 1 small wet bag to keep in diaper bag.

To win these prizes you will need to leave a comment about our sales site. I need some helpful feedback to help make it better. Let me know if you would rather use the site if you could pay directly with a credit card on the site instead of through paypal and, well, if you just think something is missing in our inventory or on the site. All feedback is good feedback. I will choose by throwing the names into a hat and choosing one for each prize. The drawing will be on the 21st and I will need peoples addresses there soon after so that I can ship these prizes before the 24th of December.

If you live out of the country you will have to pay for shipping but all orders in the USA will be shipped for free.

Our next giveaway will be after the baby is born and will be to celebrate his birth. Hope you keep posted.

For you that are shopping, get 10% off of your purchase by using the code: newblog

This discount code will be good till the 21st of Dec.

Thank you for your participation!
